So I've finished two novels this year so far. One novel, titled Song of Silence is about a teenage being abused by her mother and she has to protect her six-year-old sister. I've been writing this story since 2011. It has evolved into what it is now; there are multiple drafts but I like where I ended up with this story. This one I want to try to get published. Once I've done a self-edit on it I will upload an excerpt of it. I have already started the sequel. The other story I wrote is just a YA love story. I am not sure I want to publish, at least not right now. I've been writing that story since 2009 and I wanted to complete it. I like the story but I am not sure I want to ever publish it. It doesn't have a title yet but I will edit it as well and think about submitting it later.
Here is some advice I have for anyone wanting to write a novel: create an outline and character sketches. Both of these stories came together once I made an outline and character sketch. The YA love story that I started back in 2009 has been sitting in my documents folder for that long because I had an idea and typed up 60+ pages before getting stuck. I figured out where I wanted to go with Song of Silence with the help of the outline. Making outlines and character sketches can be time consuming and take a while to create but in the long run you’ll be happy you did it. It gives you direction especially if you get stuck.
